Com Systems Earnings Up 82% in 3rd Quarter

Com Systems said its third-quarter profit jumped 82% from a year earlier on a 24% revenue gain.

The Van Nuys-based company, which provides long-distance telephone service to customers in California, Nevada and Arizona, said net income climbed to $640,000, or 13 cents a share, from $351,000, or 8 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose to $10.4 million from $8.4 million.

Com Systems’ earnings for the first nine months of this year nearly doubled from the comparable 1986 period, to $1.9 million, or 40 cents a share, from $1 million, or 23 cents a share. Nine-month revenue rose 38% to $29.3 million from $21.2 million. The company’s improved results are due in part to some smaller long distance firms it has acquired in the past year.
