Share

Officials from the Beverly Hills-Hollywood Chapter of National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People and Los Angeles-based Hughes Aircraft Co. agreed Tuesday to form a task force to examine hiring, firing and promotion policies at the company, NAACP officials said.

The group also presented Hughes officials with 15 cases from among 300 in their files which they allege show a pattern of company discrimination against black employees, according to NAACP spokeswoman Connie Watson. Hughes has about 80,000 employees, of which about 7,000 are black.

“We felt it was a very positive meeting. They exhibited a sincere effort to work with us,” Watson said. Hughes officials refused to comment on the meeting.

Both sides agreed to meet again in January to discuss mechanics of forming the task force, Watson said.
