Compton : Brochure Contract Awarded

Share

The Compton City Council has approved spending $124,232 a year to mail six public relations brochures to about 23,000 homes in the city. The brochures will be in lieu of the monthly newsletter currently distributed as an insert in the Compton Bulletin.

Rapid Publishing, which prints the Bulletin, will produce the brochures. The agreement is a three-year extension of the original contract, which was to expire next month. The company had been receiving $168,000 a year for producing 11 issues of the newsletter.

The resolution was passed by a 4-1 vote Tuesday, with Councilman Maxcy D. Filer dissenting. Mayor Walter R. Tucker said Rapid Publishing should be rewarded with the contract because it prints in the Bulletin “the good things that are happening in Compton,” which he says other newspapers avoid.

City Clerk Charles Davis criticized the plan, saying that Rapid Publishing will receive almost 75% of what it had been for only half of the work.
