La Mirada : Noisy Parties May Be Billed

Hosts of noisy parties may soon be billed if it takes more than one police visit to calm the festivities. The La Mirada City Council, in a 4-0 vote, Tuesday gave preliminary approval to an ordinance allowing the city to charge fees if sheriff’s deputies have to return to a social gathering to answer complaints about noise or drinking. Councilman Wayne Rew abstained.

“If they want to break the law and not listen to the sheriff, then they can pay for it,” City Administrator Gary Sloan said. Depending on the number of sheriff’s deputies responding to a second call, the party bill could range from $40 to $800, Sloan said.
