Local News in Brief : No Contest, Actor Says
Actor Jimmy Smits, who plays on the “L.A. Law” television show, pleaded no contest Wednesday to disturbing the peace in a deal with prosecutors, who dropped charges of battery against a police officer and resisting arrest.
Smits, 32, was fined $150 in Los Angeles Municipal Court, ordered to perform 50 hours of community service and placed on 18 months of probation, said Ted Goldstein, a spokesman for the city attorney’s office.
Smits’ friend Wanda de Jesus, 29, who also faced the battery and resisting arrest charges, pleaded no contest to the single count of disturbing the peace stemming from the altercation with police officers in Smits’ Brentwood condominium Sept. 29.
She also pleaded no contest to misidentifying herself to a police officer, Goldstein said.
De Jesus, who recently guest starred on “L.A. Law,” was fined $250, ordered to perform 75 hours of community service and also placed on 18 months’ probation.
