Local News in Brief : Agreement on Dapplegray
On a 4-1 vote, the Rolling Hills Estates City Council on Tuesday adopted an agreement with the Palos Verdes Peninsula school district to allow development at the former Dapplegray Intermediate School.
Under the agreement, which still must be approved by the school board, the city would get 10 acres of the Dapplegray site for use as parkland. The remaining 32.9 acres could be developed into 61 single-family homes.
The action was taken over the objections of resident Bill Bartz, who represented the East Peninsula Education Council, a citizens group. The group, which is working to form a new school district on the east side of the Peninsula, wants to prevent development at Dapplegray because it might be needed if the effort for a new district succeeds.
Council member Peter Weber, who cast the sole vote against the agreement, spoke in favor of delaying council approval to give the new group more time to organize.
Council member Nell Mirels argued that the city would not gain by delaying the vote.
The school board is scheduled to review and approve the development agreement at its meeting Dec. 7.
