Ramon F. LaGrandeur, superintendent and president of the Santa Clarita Community College District, said Wednesday he has submitted his resignation to the district’s trustees and plans to leave his post in June.

LaGrandeur, 61, characterized his departure as an amicable parting that occurred after he and his wife discussed their future plans.

“There are some things we would like to do while we’re still young enough to enjoy them,” he said. “It’s time to hang up the mortar board.”

LaGrandeur has been in education for 35 years and a community college administrator for 22 years. He joined the Santa Clarita Community College District in 1983. Before taking the Santa Clarita post, LaGrandeur was president of Spokane Community College.

College of the Canyons in Valencia, where 4,500 students are enrolled, is the only campus in the Santa Clarita college district.
