Local News in Brief : DeBellis Swaps City Posts

Tony DeBellis, who recently lost a bid for reelection to the Hermosa Beach City Council, stepped down from the council dais this week when his term officially ended and was appointed to a vacant seat on the Planning Commission several hours later.

The City Council voted 2 to 1 to appoint DeBellis to the remaining seven months of the four-year term of Chuck Sheldon, who replaced DeBellis on the council.

Sheldon, who resigned as commission chairman when he was elected to the City Council earlier this month, and Mayor Etta Simpson voted to appoint DeBellis, who is planning manager in Inglewood.

Roger Creighton, also elected to the council Nov. 3, favored Christine Ketz for the Planning Commission vacancy.

The five-member Planning Commission serves as an advisory board to the City Council on planning issues such as zoning, variances, the General Plan and conditional-use permits.
