Rio Hondo College in Whittier has approved the installation of condom vending machines in men’s and women’s restrooms as an AIDS prevention measure.
The board of trustees has contracted with a vendor to install the machines this weekend in 10 restrooms, according to Pamela Jo Cox, public information officer for the community college.
Students and faculty voted by a 3-1 margin in favor of installing the machines. Rio Hondo’s action follows the lead of other California schools, including UCLA, Cal State Northridge and the University of California campuses at Davis and Santa Cruz.
