Playing the Lottery: Should Jackpots Be Large or Small?

Share

I received my state tax-rebate check a few days ago. I had anticipated receiving a sizeable amount, but to my surprise the rebate turned out to be a mere $32.

Though the state’s budget surplus is a significant and complex problem, this rebate scam is not the solution. However, as a “progressive pragmatist,” I offer those who have received these checks a simple solution. Cash the check immediately. Take the money to the nearest Lottery outlet and buy $32 worth of tickets. Now, you will have contributed to the school system--thereby satisfying any concerns that the rebate check would go to waste, and simultaneously giving the state another shot at making this rebate worth talking about.
