Judge Urged to Reverse Ban on Cameras in Court

NEW YORK —
News organizations on Friday asked the judge in the trial of four white youths charged with attacking three blacks in Queens last year to reverse his decision banning cameras from the courtroom.
One of the black men, Michael Griffith, ran onto a highway and was killed by a car.
The judge said he will wait until Monday to announce if he will change his decision. An 18-month experiment allowing television and still cameras in courtrooms at a judge’s discretion is to begin in New York state on Tuesday.
