Fickle Faye

Writer-director Paul Bartel (“Eating Raoul”) felt that he’d pulled off quite a casting coup last year when Faye Dunaway agreed to play a principal role in his risque black comedy “Scenes From the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills” to be filmed in early 1988 by Cinecom Pictures.
“Faye had been waiting on and off for a year for the production to start,” Bartel told us. He said the production company pushed back the start date several times despite his warnings that delays might mean losing Dunaway.
Sure enough, with the release of “Barfly” and critical praise for her performance, she got hot and opted for other work.
“I can’t really say I’d have done differently in her place,” said Bartel. “She obviously can command much more money now.”
