Kevin Costner--now filming “Bull Durham” in North Carolina--will star in and exec produce “Revenge,” based on the psycho-adventure novella by Jim Harrison. The long-in-development project at Warners was acquired by Ray Stark in a swap for “Bird,” the story of jazzman Charlie Parker, now being directed by Clint Eastwood. “Revenge” will be filmed for New World early in 1988.

With his newly won star status, Costner’s “supervising the writing of the script” by Robert Garland (“No Way Out”), according to his rep.

Costner’s presently in front of the camera in Durham, N.C., while Garland’s dictating (he doesn’t type) the script to his secretary in nearby Chapel Hill.

“Every couple of days we’ll get together and discuss what’s been written,” said Garland. “He has an unusually good sense of material and what the intent is behind my writing.

“On ‘No Way Out,’ for instance, his suggestions were always very good even if I disagreed with them or could not include them in the script.”
