Show Goes On With Players Not on Stage

The marquee on the 50-year-old La Reina theater at 14622 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, is ready to announce its newest show--even if not all the performers are in place.

The theater and adjacent property is in the finishing stages of being remodeled into a $20-million, 48,254-square-foot shopping center, and some, but not all, of the 30 stores may be open early this week, according to Gary Watson, property manager for the developer DES Number 1, a Los Angeles-based limited partnership.

Michael Carson, director of projects for the architect, Design Collaborative, Encino, said the building exterior uses the marquee and theater facade as the set piece with the total building design recalling the architectural motifs of the 1930s.

The marquee will give public service messages as well as announce sales.

The contractor is Ed. Grush General Contractor Inc., Long Beach.
