Exclusion Argument

Share

One has to ask a fascinating question about “The Trusteeship” (by Kathleen Hendrix, Nov. 22) since the socializing can’t but help the participants advance their own mutual interests--more affluence, influence and power. How would the courts rule if a man seeks to be part of The Trusteeship and cites all the classic reasons that have led to women crying sex discrimination when excluded from men-only associations?

I know! I know! There are differences between the private clubs to which women object, and what is described in The Times piece in View.

But the exclusion argument still stands if one insists on an absolute position as has been advocated by some women, a few of whom may well be in The Trusteeship.
