U.S. factory sales of electronic equipment, components and related products during the first nine months of the year increased 6.7% over the same period last year, an industry association said. Sales for the 1987 period totaled $165.5 billion, up from last year’s nine-month record sales of $155.2 billion, according to figures released by the Electronic Industries Assn. The association predicted that sales for the year would top $220 billion. The group also reported a $12.8-billion U.S. trade deficit in electronics for the nine-month period that ended Sept. 30, a 4% increase over the 1986 period.
