‘We Fixate on a Flaw’

I agree with Tavris that people are overlooking the true issues for selecting a candidate. It does not matter what candidates have done in their past; what counts is the present and the future. Furthermore, people need to start viewing a candidate’s ideas and performance rather than his negative past. Everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect. Just because a person makes a mistake doesn’t mean he is a bad person.

For example, if a person smokes marijuana as a teen-ager, that does not mean he will grow up to be a bad person or a bad leader. If he realizes that marijuana smoking is wrong and quits, that mistake will be in the past.

If God can forgive, we should be able to forgive. All of the negative things that a person has done before he/she becomes a Christian are forgiven and forgotten by God. Why can’t people be like that?

We should stop judging candidates by their negative past and concentrate on a their ability to lead.
