The World : Syrian Slain in West Beirut

Share

A Syrian soldier was shot to death in West Beirut in what police said was another blow to a 10-month Syrian security plan for the Muslim sector of the city. Police said several armed men, apparently using silencer-equipped guns, shot the soldier about 50 yards from a roadblock manned by Syrian troops in the residential area of Cola. An underground group, the Liberation Battalion, claimed responsibility for the attack, the third of its kind in less than seven weeks, the Christian Voice of Lebanon radio reported.
