From a Times Staff Writer

A brick was thrown through the rear window of a car that has been used by Natan Sharansky, former Soviet refusenik and a major force in organizing Sunday’s mass rally on behalf of Soviet Jewry. Sharansky told friends that the incident reminded him of Soviet KGB harassment tactics in Moscow.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred late Friday or early Saturday on a street in residential northwest Washington, where Sharansky was staying with friends. It was the car of his hosts that was damaged by the brick, which shattered the window and came to rest in the front seat of the car. The damage was discovered Saturday morning.

Police said it was an unusual form of vandalism for the upper-middle-class area, although they later said a similar incident was reported a few blocks away, according to Sharansky’s hosts, who asked that their name not be published.
