Local News in Brief : City to Renovate Home

Share

The La Canada Flintridge City Council has abandoned plans to refurbish the historic Lanterman estate for use as municipal offices, putting to rest an issue that has divided the small city for almost a year.

The five-member council voted unanimously to pursue only one of five options previously considered for the property--renovation of the mansion as a museum and organ recital hall.

City patriarch Lloyd Lanterman willed his family’s 73-year-old house to the city on his death early this year, but plans to use the home for city offices were opposed by residents and Assemblyman Pat Nolan (R-Glendale), who inserted a $500,000 allocation for restoration of the house into a bill signed by Gov. George Deukmejian in October.
