Local News in Brief : Arrested Prosecutor Fired

Share

A deputy district attorney who was arrested in October for allegedly having oral sex with a prostitute in a parked car was fired Tuesday for what was described as a “serious breach of conduct.”

“Your conduct on Oct. 14 renders you unable to serve as a representative of this office,” Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner said in a letter to Gary P. Kesselman.

Reiner’s letter does not mention the dispute between Kesselman, the original prosecutor in the “Twilight Zone” manslaughter case, and the prosecutor who replaced him. Kesselman filed a $7-million suit in federal court in September, alleging that his superiors tried to get him to perjure himself when he took the witness stand in that trial.

Kesselman plans to fight the ouster before the county Civil Service Commission on grounds that the district attorney engaged in a “political act of revenge,” his attorney, Warren L. Ettinger, said.
