‘Political Wimpishness’ and the Sylvia Cunliffe Case

Share

The Cunliffe affair, as described in various recent issues of The Times, should teach our all-too-casual City Council a valuable lesson: When a high-ranking city post is at stake, investigate the candidates before agreeing to the appointment. Cunliffe had been in the civil service system for some years, and certainly the Civil Service Commission should have made her records available to the council.

I think the council should spend less of its time playing footsie with developers and lobbyists, and more of taking care of the details of city government. That is what they were elected for, and that is what they are being paid for by the taxpayers.
