British economist Stephen Lewis said 50,000 workers in London would lose their jobs as a result of the Oct. 19 stock market crash. Others in London have estimated that 10,000 jobs would be lost. More than 600 jobs in London have already been cut. Lewis, economic research director for Phillips & Drew, a British stock brokerage, also said in a television interview in London that he expected the crash to increase the influence of Japanese brokerages.
