Carpeteria to Shift Headquarters to Valencia

Carpeteria, a statewide chain of 65 carpet stores with about $100 million in annual sales, said it will move its corporate headquarters by April to Valencia from Hollywood.

Bryan Haserjian, executive vice president, said the privately held company will move to an 80,000-square-foot building in the Valencia Industrial Center that will include a warehouse area as well as corporate office space.

The company is moving, Haserjian said, because it needs more room. Since 1974, Carpeteria has been housed in a 32,000-square-foot building near Santa Monica Boulevard and Vine Street.

Haserjian said the company bought land in 1980 in an unincorporated area of Agoura, where it planned to move its headquarters.

But, Haserjian said, the company’s rapid growth made it necessary to look for a site that could accommodate a larger building than the Agoura site could. Carpeteria is considering selling the Agoura land, Haserjian said.

Carpeteria is owned by brothers Harold and Ted Haserjian, who founded the company in 1960. In the 1970s it became well-known in the Southern California area for its commercials, featuring actor Dale Robertson.

Haserjian, who is Harold Haserjian’s son, said Carpeteria had $80 million in sales in the fiscal year ended July 31 and expects $100 million in sales during the current fiscal year. Carpeteria does not release profit figures.

Carpeteria has 65 stores, nearly all of them in California, with 25 owned by the company and the rest franchises.
