Local News in Brief : Marshall High Team Wins Mock Trials
- Share via
The mock trial team from John Marshall High School placed first last week in the 10th annual Los Angeles County Mock Trial Competition.
The team, made up of 10th-, 11th- and 12th-graders, will advance to the state tournament in Sacramento in April.
During the final competition held Thursday in the Los Angeles County Courthouse, the 16-person team argued a case before a real Los Angeles Superior Court judge. The fictional case concerned a man charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and battery on a police officer. A lawyer from the district attorney’s office and a private attorney judged the final round.
Teams from 40 high schools throughout the county participated in the overall competition. The Marshall team opposed eight other schools in the round-robin tournament, winning each time.
