Forgery Arrest May Cost Bank Robber His Freedom on Bail

A convicted teen-age bank robber free on bail pending an appeal might have his bail revoked because of his arrest Thursday on suspicion of credit-card forgery, a judge said Friday.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Alan B. Haber said he would hear arguments on behalf of Michael Morrison, 19, on Monday. But Haber said he is inclined to revoke Morrison’s bail based on a police report on his arrest Thursday in Van Nuys.

Morrison’s father posted $50,000 bail for his son in the robbery case. The younger Morrison was convicted in June of bank robbery and theft of a car at gunpoint.

“There’s a very high probability that Mr. Morrison’s bail pending appeal is going to be revoked, period,” said Haber, who presided at Morrison’s trial.

Morrison, of Tarzana, was released on $6,000 bail after his arrest Thursday. The bail Morrison posted in the credit-card incident would not prevent him from being jailed if his bail in the bank-robbery case is revoked, authorities said.

Morrison, 16 at the time of the bank robbery, pleaded guilty to the robbery and car-theft charges June 24 and was sentenced to five years in California Youth Authority custody.
