China expelled a Taiwanese member of a New York-based Chinese dissident group, a day after a man linked to the same group was sentenced to two years in prison for political crimes, news reports and Western diplomats said. Qian Da, a Taiwan citizen who holds a U.S. residency card, was expelled by police in Shanghai, the news reports said. According to one Chinese newspaper, Qian had traveled to Shanghai on a tourist visa from the United States, concealing documents showing he was a representative of the Chinese Democratic Alliance. Western diplomats said he had attempted to attend the Shanghai trial of Yang Wei, a U.S.-educated Chinese student linked to the group.
