A morning commuter train to Paris collided with an empty train in southwest suburban Issy-les-Moulineaux, killing a woman passenger and injuring 38 other people, 10 seriously. Three rail cars were knocked off the tracks. Roger Gerin, transport director for the French national railroad, said the empty train was beginning to shift from the main line to a side track when the commuter, packed with 400 passengers, struck it almost head-on. The driver of the Paris-bound train was in critical condition. The railroad said the cause of the accident is under investigation but that it may have been due to a faulty signal.
