An Israeli kibbutz has taken in two Iranian deserters released from jail two weeks ago after being imprisoned for illegally entering Israel, a kibbutz member disclosed.

They will live and work at Kibbutz Haogen with non-israeli volunteers who come to work at mainly menial jobs in return for their board and a token wage, he said Thursday.

The two men, one of them facing a death penalty in Iran for opposition to the Islamic republic of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, arrived in Israel separately after fleeing the Iranian front line in that country’s war with Iraq and making their way to Jordan.
