Persian Gulf Arab leaders ended a four-day summit today, welcoming the idea of a U.N. naval force to protect gulf shipping and denouncing Iran’s “aggressive acts” against Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council conference urged Iran to “abide by the principles of good neighborliness” and accept a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire in the 7-year-old Iran-Iraq War.

The Saudi foreign minister, Prince Saud al Faisal, told a news conference afterward that the council “welcomes an international naval force to protect shipping in the region’s international waters.”
