Brazil’s inflation for 1987 was a record 366%, meaning prices almost quadrupled in a year, the semi-official Geography and Statistics Institute said. The institute said inflation for December was 14.14%, with food, transportation and health-care costs rising more than the average. The previous highest inflation in a calendar year was 234% in 1985. Last year, a price freeze pulled inflation down to 62%.
