RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Former First Lady Betty Ford, who underwent open-heart surgery a month ago, was in stable condition today in Eisenhower Medical Center after being readmitted complaining of weakness.
Mrs. Ford, 69, underwent open-heart surgery at the hospital Nov. 20 to clear four clogged arteries. She was brought back to the hospital by ambulance at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, hospital spokesman Michael McFadden said. “According to President Ford, she experienced some weakness at dinner and he called the ambulance,” McFadden said. McFadden could not immediately confirm reports that Mrs. Ford had experienced bleeding from sutures from her surgery.
