The celebrated leaning tower of Pisa leaned more slowly in 1987 than in 1986, inclining a further 0.7 millimeters during the year, its chief custodian said today.

After the traditional annual measurement by Pisa University, custodian Giuseppe Toniolo said that at the present rate of movement, the 187-foot tower would topple over in about 100 years. Last year it leaned a further 1.26 millimeters.
