Five Chamber Music Programs Offered

The Southwest Chamber Music Society will offer five programs at Santa Ana High School during its inaugural season. All will begin at 2 p.m, except for the final program, which will start at 7:30 p.m. Concert previews will be held an hour before each program.
Jan. 10: Debussy’s “Syrinx for Flute Unaccompanied” and Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp; Britten’s “The Heart of the Matter” (to poems by Edith Sitwell), and the premiere of Anthony Vazzana’s “Whispers and Chants” (to a text by Jacob Zeitlin).
Feb. 21: Selections from Bach’s “Well-Tempered Clavier” (as arranged by Mozart); Mozart’s Divertimento in E-flat for String Trio, K. 563, and the U.S. premiere of Ernst Krenek’s String Trio in Twelve Stations, Op. 237.
April 10: Falla’s Four Spanish Pieces and “Fantasia Betica,” Copland’s Quartet for Piano and Strings, and Halsey Stevens’ Quintet for Flute and Piano Quartet.
May 29: Stravinsky’s Sonata; Brahms’ Trio in E-flat for Horn, Violin and Piano, Op. 40, and Charles Wuorinen’s “Horn Trio 1981.”
June 19: Haydn’s Trio in G, Op. 53; Brahms’ Quartet No. 1 in G minor, Op. 25, and Schoenberg’s Trio, Op. 45.
