Naked Fijian Runs Amok on New Zealand Jet
A Fijian man stripped naked and went berserk on an Air New Zealand flight Tuesday, threatening to kill everyone on board and smashing bottles of wine before being subdued by passengers and flight attendants, police said.
Passengers aboard the flight to Nadi, Fiji, said the man, who was not identified, yelled loudly about 10 minutes after the plane took off from Auckland, New Zealand, stripped off his clothes and marched up and down the aisles.
He also kicked at the cockpit door, but it was not clear if he was attempting to gain access.
Passenger Frank Gergelifi, in a telephone interview from Nadi, said it took about 30 minutes to overpower the man. He said flight attendants handcuffed the man’s hands and legs and used seat belts to tie him down.
A waiting team of police and doctors took the man to a hospital after the other passengers had disembarked at Nadi. It was not immediately known if charges would be filed.
