The British musical “Chess” will have a Broadway run in April after all, the show’s New York producers have announced. The New York Times reported in Wednesday’s editions that previews of “Chess” will begin April 4, with the official opening scheduled for April 28. “Following a New Year’s weekend round of conferences and telephone meetings,” said Bernard B. Jacobs, president of the Schubert Organization, “the ‘insurmountable scheduling difficulties’ cited last week for a postponement of the American production of ‘Chess’ have been overcome.” The opening will mean that the revival of the musical “Cabaret,” now at the Imperial, will have to close or move to a new theater.
