Actor Ian McKellan is giving all of the revenue from the London run of his hit one-man show, “Acting Shakespeare,” to a treatment center for victims of the deadly disease AIDS. The Tony award-winning actor has raised $250,000 in less than three weeks from box office receipts, collections in the theater lobby, program sales, a brochure and a bar with champagne donated by Marks and Spencer department store. The show’s run was extended until Jan. 30 and McKellan said in an interview that he hopes to reach his target of $540,000 by the close. The center McKellan supports is the London Lighthouse, set up in August, 1986, with a $1,260 interest-free loan from the John Paul Getty Trust, established by the American philanthropist.
