Alvin B. Phillips has joined Irvine-based Thomas Bros. Maps as vice president and general manager. He takes on responsibilities that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Warren B. Wilson had assumed when a vacancy was created a year and a half ago. Before joining Thomas Bros., Phillips ran a consulting practice specializing in business turnaround and marketing strategy for high-tech companies. During 30 years in the chip and computer industries, he held management positions with General Electric, Motorola, GTE/Sylvania, Rockwell International and General Dynamics/Telecom. Phillips is also the founder and a former chairman and chief executive officer of Western Digital in Irvine. Thomas Bros. produces street guides, road atlases and wall maps.
