Local News in Brief : Sepulveda Woman Gets Marshall Scholarship

An 18-year-old Sepulveda woman is the recipient of the Marshall Scholarship awarded to American students of outstanding intellect and character.

Seana Shiffrin, a senior philosophy major at the University of California, Berkeley, will study for two years at Oxford University in England under terms of the scholarship.

The scholarship was established by the British government in memory of George C. Marshall, an American Army general and statesman who established a plan to provide financial assistance to help rebuild Europe after World War II.

The scholarship is awarded annually to 30 students nationwide. Students must be under the age of 25 and have a 3.7 grade-point average or higher. Winners receive money for tuition, travel expenses, books and a stipend. Each scholarship is valued at $20,000.
