Edward V. Hickey Jr.; Maritime Commission Chairman

Edward V. Hickey Jr., 62, the chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission and a former aide to President Reagan. The former Secret Service agent had known Reagan since 1968 when he was assigned to the security detail for the then-California governor and presidential candidate the day after Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was killed in Los Angeles. Hickey joined the White House staff in January, 1981, as a deputy assistant to the president and director of the White House military office and was promoted in February, 1982, to assistant to the President. He held that job until 1985, when he became head of the maritime commission. In Falls Church, Va., on Saturday of a heart attack.
