The Paris trial of 19 suspected members of the French terrorist group Direct Action on charges of belonging to an illegal organization opened amid shouting and disruption. Police had to carry one of the group’s leaders, Joelle Aubron, into the courtroom. Two defendants were ejected for shouting. Aubron and three others--Jean Marc Rouillan, Nathalie Menigon and Georges Cipriani--have been on a hunger strike, demanding status as political prisoners. The four--arrested last Feb. 22 in a raid that police said put the group out of operation--are awaiting trials on charges ranging from possession of explosives to murder. The group has claimed responsibility for about 80 bombings and shootings.
