The World : Iraqi Raid Kills 2 Seamen
Two merchant seamen were dead and six others were missing after an Iraqi missile attack on a Cypriot-registered tanker, the London-based Lloyd’s Shipping Intelligence Unit said. The 21,321-ton United Venture was loaded with Iranian gasoline and had a crew of 30 when it was struck near Iran’s port of Lavan. A spokesman for the Greek owners, Diana Shipping Agencies S.A., said two Filipino seamen were killed and four Greeks and two Filipinos were missing. The crew and men from an Iranian-chartered tugboat were continuing to fight a fire aboard the vessel, gulf shipping officials said.
