Charleston Ex-Mayor Gets 179 Days in Cocaine Case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former Mayor Mike Roark was sentenced today to 179 days in prison, fined $5,000 and given a three-year suspended sentence after he admitted last year that he possessed cocaine six times.
Roark, a Republican who stepped down Nov. 24 after pleading guilty to six misdemeanor charges, will be on probation during the term of his suspended sentence, U.S. District Judge Walter E. Hoffman said. The former mayor was known as “Mad Dog” Roark for his vigorous prosecution of drug dealers during his days as Kanawha County prosecutor.
