Melina Mercouri, the Greek minister of culture, will attend the Washington opening of “The Human Figure in Ancient Greek Art” on Jan. 26 at the National Gallery of Art. Mercouri, known stateside as a film actress, is scheduled to attend a series of functions planned in conjunction with the opening of the five-city traveling exhibit that also will make stops in Kansas City, Mo., Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles (it will be at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art late this year). The exhibit includes marbles, bronzes, painted pottery and terra cotta figures dating back to the 10th Century B.C., some of which have never been shown outside Greece.
