Two Mexican nationals were arrested in a Tijuana motel room Thursday in connection with the shooting death of a Simi Valley man, police said.
Lt. Dick Thomas said Dario Duarte, 19, was shot to death in front of a home in the 4400 block of Apricot Road in Simi Valley at 4 p.m. Monday. Detectives learned that Duarte had been in an argument with two other men when the shooting occurred. Other details of the killing were unavailable.
Thomas said the two men, Eugenio Perez, 25, and Angel Orozco, 24, were traced to a motel in Tijuana and arrested when Mexican federal police were alerted. The two suspects were being held without bail in Mexico and will be tried there for the Simi Valley killing, Thomas said.
Mexico does not extradite its citizens to face criminal charges. Instead, the country’s legal system allows it to prosecute its citizens for crimes committed in foreign countries.
Thomas said Simi Valley police are gathering evidence, which will be turned over to Mexican authorities.
