Quiksilver reported a net loss of $25,000 for the fiscal fourth quarter ended Oct. 31, contrasted with net income of $269,000 a year earlier. The Costa Mesa clothing designer and distributor’s sales for the quarter were $7.6 million, a 90% increase from $4 million reported in the same period last year. Quiksilver said its fiscal 1987 net income increased 19% to $2.3 million from $1.9 million a year earlier. Net sales for the year were up 62% to $30 million contrasted with $18.6 million in the same period a year ago. The fourth-quarter results were adversely affected by higher-than-anticipated manufacturing costs associated with some new product lines and a write-down of inventories of about $500,000.
