Stan & Ollie

Like Christon, I, too, often wonder why critics and today’s audiences have a blind spot for the genius of Laurel and Hardy.

I was sadly reminded of this fact recently when our family journeyed from Orange County to a revival theater in L.A. where “Babes in Toyland” was showing.

Having never seen one of their films on the big screen with an audience, we expected to see aisles filled with adoring fans, and were dismayed to find only a handful of vagabonds who had come in to escape the cold.

My 8-year-old daughter summed up the feeling afterward by turning to me and saying, “Dad, how come nobody else applauded at the end?”

Thanks for putting “the boys” in their place . . . on the cover of Calendar. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they appear on the cover 60 years from now.

We’ll still be laughing. Long live Stan and Ollie!
