Trust Me, Dave’s Funny

In response to Kay Klein’s criticism of David Letterman (Calendar Letter, Jan. 3), trust me (and his millions of fans, and his peers), Letterman is one of the truly great spontaneous comedians.

His writers do not “create” his comedy, but rather are a well-chosen extension of his comedic view.

Many of the comedians Klein likes are often presented under the auspices of Letterman, and perhaps one of the reasons we all appear so sharp is that he has always had the most incredible good grace to step back and let the comics on his show shine through.
