Investors went shopping Monday to celebrate the trim U.S. trade deficit announced Friday and a stronger dollar.

The key Nikkei stock average was up 369.41 points to 22,973.06 at the end of the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s morning session.

The dollar jumped 4.55 yen from Thursday’s close to open at 131.50 yen--and by late morning was trading at around 131 yen, almost unchanged from its New York close on Friday. Japanese markets were closed Friday for a holiday.
