The Sierra Historic Sites Assn. has asked that an unnamed peak in eastern Madera County be named after pioneer mountaineer Orland Bartholomew, who is credited for the first wintertime exploration of the High Sierra during the 1920s. The preservationist group wants the name Bart’s Peak given to the 11,000-foot peak at the headwaters of the San Joaquin River in Madera County.
